Branch EIGHT- John Roley
Known Descendants

John Roley is thought to be one of the twenty men from Westmoreland county of Pennsylvania, recruited in 1775, by John Proctor, the first sheriff of the county, to march to the aid of Boston against the British.  It is possible that they carried the "DON'T TREAD ON ME" FLAG.  John Roley was in service with Capt. Thomas Stockley in 1776 (reference lost).

A John Rowley served with Capt. John McClelland (a Westmoreland county man) in Northampton county, PA, in a company of "Rangers on the Frontiers" between 1778 and 1783.  PA archives, Series 5, Vol. XXIII, p. 334.

John Roley received Depreciation Pay, PA Series 5 IV, p. 454.  His militia discharge was 27 Nov 1792.  PA A S6, V, page 685.  No pension was drawn as far as is know.

A transcript of property in Westmoreland county in 1783 for Mount Pleasant Township lists Jno. Rowley: 100 acres, 2 horses, 2 cattle, 2 sheep.

One record shows that this Isaac died the day he was born. The Civil War pension file for John & Mary (Bolvin) Rowley omits Isaac from the list of children, as it does Clarissa, who also died young.

This is the man whose name caused the confusion in the estate papers of the elder John Roley, who was deceased in Oct 1822.
